Two months, two tricks from this company. My elderly parents got duped twice, in August for £179 with £12.99 DD, then in September for £199 for £12.99 monthly Direct debit. Mum said stop, but they pushed on, claiming 'we have your bank details on file' and still went ahead. How they could start a DD without permission, and why they keep her bank info, is scary. We cancelled DD and asked the bank for a refund. It will appear as WARMBOX on DD. I will report them to Action Fraud. This should never have happened to anyone.
Totally wrong. They tricked my elderly mother-in-law, who has memory problems, into handing over her bank details and signing for a plan she did not need or understand. We stepped in fast, stopped it, and secured the account immediately.

Aggressive marketing... taking advantage of elderly people
Pushy marketing Two letters went to an older person saying they had joined several plans. Then a loud, hard pushy call followed up. The service was not needed or right. The home already has WiFi and a TV box from a big provider, and only a laptop is used, so there was no use for this 'service'. ... The home already has WiFi and a TV box from a big provider, and only a laptop is used, so there was no use for this 'service'. Glad I said no, or they would have billed over £12 a month for something not wanted. That felt pushy and pointless. Honestly. Stay away from them!
I act for an older person with memory trouble, and he was tricked into joining Smarterbox for stuff he does not need at all. This happened in a pressured phone call. Please warn others to avoid similar trouble in future.
Told my elderly mother she needed their kit to use her mobile. Crooks who tricked her into a direct debit anyway.

Hard sell to vulnerable adults

It’s outrageous. I’ve cancelled the DDs and it looks like the £179 was also made a DD. If I don’t get a full refund, I’ll be calling the ombudsman. That would be very bad indeed.
Pushy selling to an old person who has little tech, just a landline and a TV. They asked for bank information, which caused more hassle since I’m unsure what she really told us in that moment.

Disgusting bunch of scammers!
This firm should be checked by watchdogs. They cold-called my son-in-law and sold him a call-blocker for £175, plus a monthly plan for no clear reason. It looks like they push a monthly charge as needed for the device to work, which it does not. The same box can be bought on Amazon for £30 or on eBay for £10! Then they rang him again, trying to push a home alarm by scaring him, saying his age made him easy prey. My wife phoned the firm to complain about the call, and the person at the other end asked whether she had power of attorney, otherwise it was none of her business! Truly awful company, stay away. We felt tricked and angry, and the whole thing left my family stressed and unsettled for many days.
Nice experience on my end. Bought their gadget protection plan, and I've had to use it twice already with no issues. Solid support and reasonable prices.

Purchased one of their call blocker…
Picked up a call blocker for my mother in law who’s older. It’s simple for her to use, and it cut a lot of scam and nuisance calls she used to get every day.

unethical and exploitative

They nuisance-call my old mum in July, pressuring her to give them her bank details to stop all future nuisance calls! They sent some sort of box she couldn't use, and they charged £179 for it, plus a plan that cost £199. I rang and stopped it all on 19 August, after which she got a £179 video doorbell she hadn't asked for, didn't want, and couldn't use. Now we have to pay to send it back, and she will apparently get back the latest £179 and all the money for "guarantees" and "plans". Legal? probably. Unethical and exploitative? definitely. They made this feel like a bad joke, not help.
Dreadful company - taking advantage of the elderly

I received a sale notice addressed to my father who passed away 9 months ago - I honestly tried calling but could not get through - what kind of company handles sales to people who are deceased ?

She’s vulnerable and dealing with scam calls - they sold her a tricky device for £179 and set up a monthly £12.99 direct debit for nuisance calls, and look just as bad as the scammers she tries to block. They are cold calling and exploiting vulnerable customers who don’t understand the products they are being sold at a hefty price. AVOID would be my advice to anyone considering using this company they are scammers and coercive. They trade under 2 names, Smarterbox and warmbox ltd. Please contact your bank if you or your loved one has any transactions from these companies. Update - Have since been contacted by Trust Pilot requesting that I provide additional information for SmarterBox to recognise my review as "genuine". Given the information requested I will not be sharing this as I do not trust this company with personal details and information. Please don't ignore this warning today.

This company is a real rogue outfit, beware folks! High pressure phone sales, they tricked my elderly mom into giving bank details away. When I called and returned the unwanted product within the return window, they refused to refund money. Just stay away from them.

Pressured my older mom into buying a call blocker. Too much pressure. They clearly push seniors into buying junk tech that they won't use or need. They should be ashamed of themselves, totally, really.

These folks took advantage of my older mom by sending her a box claimed to stop nuisance calls, while they themselves push those calls. Please stay away from them and file a report as a scam. Firms like this shouldn't be allowed to trade anywhere.
