A failure to address concerns or fix the issue
SANTANDER keeps letting me down. I keep seeing payments get refused after I approve them. Last week I tried to pay a bill and it failed again. I even tried buying credit for a dating site and it was blocked too. I have reached out many times, including this morning. They never fix the issue, and ... SANTANDER keeps letting me down. I keep seeing payments get refused after I approve them. Last week I tried to pay a bill and it failed again. I even tried buying credit for a dating site and it was blocked too. I have reached out many times, including this morning. They never fix the issue, and they never explain what is wrong. All I get are canned apologies and promises that someone will look into it. There are no updates, no reasons, nothing. It feels like they just ignore the issue until you give up. I am tired of the same excuses. If this keeps up, I might close the account. No one explains what goes wrong. Automated messages come, then nothing changes. Very poor service overall. Very disappointed.

Zero stars? Not an option. I'm saying bye to Santander for good after 48 years as a saver, from Abbey National to today. They blocked my account after three payments landed. They treated me like a criminal. My granddad left me a big inheritance, paid into Santander by his executors. Santander did... Zero stars? Not an option. I'm saying bye to Santander for good after 48 years as a saver, from Abbey National to today. They blocked my account after three payments landed. They treated me like a criminal. My granddad left me a big inheritance, paid into Santander by his executors. Santander didn't like the paperwork I sent, so they froze my account. Ten days with no access to money. No Direct Debits paid. No standing orders sent. No fuel for my car. I had to borrow from my boss. Natwest did a switch for me, and Santander stopped it. So I filed a formal complaint. They gave me temporary access, then swooped in and moved the money to Natwest. The switch isn't finished with Natwest yet, since Santander have closed my current account. Natwest is handling it for me now, even calling with updates. I'd recommend Natwest to anyone—I've saved with them for about 27 years too—and now I have my current account there. I hope this helps others avoid the stress.

All I want is to set up a transfer and it's not possible. I answered every question but the page stopped me from moving on, so I gave up. Now I have to go in person and tell them what I need. Not impressed with this bank at all...it's a rough place to deal with...but I won't go on...I see the replies...that's enough...that's why I pick Halifax, number 1 in everything

Absolutely diabolical customer service
Completely awful help from the bank, they mail a card and say just use it, it will switch on, then another hitch: it won't expire until November yet they sent a replacement three weeks ago, so I activated it the way they asked. I tried to link it to Google Wallet but no luck; I had to ring Santan... I tried to link it to Google Wallet but no luck; I had to ring Santander, waited forever, and support is useless. You can't add to Google Wallet because of security holds and you must confirm activation by phone. After 25 years I've had enough and switched to another lender, so Santander loses my funds since I moved. The new bank sent my card yesterday, I opened the account the day before, and it arrived today. Online setup was simple and safe and smooth, unlike Santander. Terrible bank, the app often won't cooperate.

Customer service is shocking,still…

Support was awful, still stuck on hold for twenty minutes, finally hung up, my head spun, such a disgusting service today.

Staff at this bank are the coldest people I meet. They have no care for customers at all. They will never prosper. It will never be good for you Santander. Hides Interest Rates & ISA deposit details in the small print

Because the ISA information was unclear and hard to find online i couldn't add money to my current ISA accounts

I closed my Santander current account…
After i shut my Santander current account over 6 months ago, i found i needed to cancel a holiday i couldn't take, yet the travel firm sent the refund back to the debit card used at the time, which was tied to my old Santander account. now, a month on, i am still trying to get that money back fro... After i shut my Santander current account over 6 months ago, i found i needed to cancel a holiday i couldn't take, yet the travel firm sent the refund back to the debit card used at the time, which was tied to my old Santander account. now, a month on, i am still trying to get that money back from Santander. i know Santander still holds it because i got a letter asking for my new bank details so they could move it to my new account. i gave them all my new details, but another two weeks passed and i still have not seen the cash. i've rung them many times and they just say it has to go through their system. what system, i have no clue, as when i send money to someone i can do it in one day, and two days later they have it. they must be using carrier pigeons. but ombudsman told me they should not have kept my money since it went to a closed bank account, it should have gone back to the original sender. that means Santander took money from me under false pretenses. i think if i did this to another bank i would be in big trouble. now the matter is in the hands of the ombudsman. so people please stay away from this bank because they take money that isn't theirs, and you end up fighting to get it back. i hope the ombudsman sorts it out soon so i can stop worrying and warn others more clearly before they get stuck too.

How can home insurance not count as a household direct debit? Now I'm moving to Bank of Scotland, hoping they value customers more. Stay away.

Worst customer service

I tried talking to someone about my problem, but they made it hard to pay. Where did Abbey National go, Santander ruined banking and customer service for everyone I know. I bet they won’t even reply to this review, and they don’t care. Government should act now.

Very impressed

Totally impressed by the help I got last Saturday, with only minutes left before closing. The advisor I spoke with went out of his way to help me move from my existing account, setting up an ISA and a savings account. I've stayed with Santander for ages and I'd gladly tell others, for me too.

It’s a rogue bank,they are not helpful…

That bank is a shady place, totally useless, they take your pay and freeze your funds, they shut your account. I absolutely regret ever opening one there.

30 mins wait on phone…

I see Santander must check big withdrawals, but staying on hold for their fraud team is a joke (now past 35 minutes and climbing). It wastes my time and makes me think their service is slow, like many reviews, I wish I could rate zero stars…

What happened to Santander? Zero points from me, and I've stayed with them for years. I can honestly say I've never been gaslit by a bank, and I hope I never will be again. Zero points from me, and I've stayed with them for years. I can honestly say I've never been gaslit by a bank, and I hope I never will be again. Obviously I'm moving my money away from them as soon as possible. Something went wrong, I don't know why or when, but I'm already moving six accounts from Santander to other banks. Their customer service used to be good, then okay, then useless, and now it sits at rude and almost hostile in about a year. They gave me wrong advice through the online chat. They also moved money from one of mine into another without any heads up. When I found this, thinking my money had vanished, they shrugged and told me to move it back. I moved it back, only for them to shift it again for me without warning. When I asked what was going on, they got smug and said I breached account rules, lost any interest, and wouldn't own up or admit that I had followed their guidance. I moved it because you told me to. No we didn't. Yes you did. Please! Four phone calls, around five hours of my precious time, several emails... all to no avail. Then a message from them saying we're downgrading your account for breaking the terms we set, with less interest. No talk about where I want my money to go. Then another email - and this one was the clincher for me - saying, 'sometimes customers have special needs and we are a caring bank, so if this is you, tell us and we'll be nice' - after they had been rude, not listening and offensive. As a busy professional person, I, like most people, don't have time to be treated with such disrespect, especially not when I have lots of money with them. Thanks - I'll take my money back and won't be back! By the way, the 'Complaints Investigator' - patronising, rude, obnoxious and unfriendly, without the slightest most meagre bit of charm or knowledge of customer service politeness, courtesy or basic manners - was called 'Alex'. What a shame after so many years of banking with them - to be gaslit by your bank!! I spent more hours on hold than any other task this year, and I still felt like a joke. So I'm closing my last few savings with them and telling friends to steer clear. What a mess for a big bank these days.

After 15+ years I'm leaving
They keep asking for papers and more info under "Know Your Customer" rules. Being autistic, hearing loss, and anxiety, this caused real harm. Now my account is frozen, access blocked, and my business threatened because they think I am a terrorist. The KYC team won't communicate at all. The custom... Now my account is frozen, access blocked, and my business threatened because they think I am a terrorist. The KYC team won't communicate at all. The customer care crew can be rude and offers no clear answers. The complaints team is decent, but they cannot fix what they caused. I filed with the Financial Ombudsman and will move all my business away to (Co-Op). I have had no useful replies, only delays and excuses, which made me lose trust. This has pushed my business toward ruin, not safety, and it hurts my family badly today.

Poor customer service

Lock on my account came after I got £15 for my partner's friend, which they called odd. I rang Santander to fix it and met a rude agent, who sounded annoyed and fed up with my replies, which I didn’t like. I finished the call unhappy with the whole experience and very irritated.
