I joined the Elk Grove club with a one dollar down and fifteen dollars every month, and shortly after I was billed forty-nine dollars. I canceled right away, within an hour of the charge. I called the club many times asking for my money back. They claimed it was in the small print. It felt like a scam. I never even set foot there because I canceled immediately. I spoke with a supervisor, who said she would push it up to her boss. Since I didn’t go there and canceled within an hour, I figured a decent company would refund me. I've heard nothing back despite many calls and emails. No one will return my call. I kept notes of every date and name I spoke with. Seems they ignore people who ask for a fair refund today. This is a terrible company with awful customer service. The problem isn’t the money alone, but how I was treated. It shows what kind of business they run. This has dragged on for ten months. It’s very frustrating and upsetting. I still want my forty-nine dollars back!

Over the years I’ve stuck with Planet Fitness off and on for more than a dozen years. Back in the old days, the whole chain felt mishandled, sloppy, and run by folks who clearly didn’t want to be there. You wouldn’t catch anyone tidying up, and you didn’t see a friendly grin or hear a goodbye as you left. I signed back up at Mountain Edge Planet Fitness, at 7895 Blue Diamond Rd., Las Vegas, when they opened in 2020. With a brand-new spot, I figured it’d be clean and friendly, but I also expected it would turn into the usual messy, run-down picture I’ve seen elsewhere. Five years on, this gym still looks sharp, and thanks to new management it’s even better than when I first joined. The staff now feel warmer and more welcoming than at any other place I’ve belonged to. That includes places like LifeTime Fitness Summerlin, L.A. Fitness, and Equinox in L.A.—but their prices dwarf Planet Fitness. Still, I’m not pitting the brands against each other for fun—this is about cleanliness and the people who run the place. The Blue Diamond team keeps the Mountain Edge site tidy, and staff members all pitch in, including store managers. The gear is kept up at least as well as pricier clubs, and the restrooms stay clean, but the real win is the staff’s friendliness, starting with the top. A few folks deserve most of the credit. First, the manager Nivek is as warm and pleasant as can be. Second, Brandon, the assistant, is as friendly and helpful as anyone I’ve run into at a gym. Kaitlyn and Mikaela are still around, though my schedule doesn’t line up with theirs as often. I’m not great with names, but most of the front desk crew at Mountain Edge sticks out, even if I can’t recall every name. This note is overdue since I joined back in 2020. If I could give more than five stars, I would. What makes this place stand out is how the crew covers the whole place, not just the front desk. The cleaning team sweeps and wipes between every set, and even the windows look clear. A fresh coffee smell and quiet corners give it a calm vibe, not a loud gym rush. I’ve seen bigger gyms with fancier gadgets, but I still come here for the people. You can tell everyone cares, from managers to the late-night crew. That makes every visit feel easy here. If you’re tired of smell and noise elsewhere, Mountain Edge makes you feel welcome from first step to last every time.

A company this limited is silly, they're stuck in the past, moving slow in the jet age... People hate the slow setup today, truly. adapt or go extinct...

When I returned later to try joining again, I learned I supposedly owed over $300, even though I had canceled. I could not believe it. The staff clearly had no clue what they were doing. To make things worse, a worker told me I'd owe half the sum and I couldn't work out — but she only said that after canceling. If she'd told me earlier, I might have kept the plan active instead of canceling. Bottom line, they never really canceled my account, and now I pay for it. Terrible service and poor communication, I wouldn't recommend this gym to anyone. I would not waste more time. If you think of joining, go elsewhere instead.

They never truly canceled my account, and now I'm stuck paying. The service was awful and the communication was poor. I wouldn't tell anyone to join. No one apologized, and they kept saying a credit might come later. I finally left frustrated, disappointed, and out money I could hardly spare today.
Totally a scam, they claim just $24 per month but after 45 days they bill $49 yearly, and if you quit within 10 days they won't refund your cash. So it ends up $28 each month, not $24. Watch out, it’s a scam and I would not suggest it today.

Zero Stars For This Gym
If I could score zero stars, I would. From start to finish, my time with Planet Fitness has been full of lies and frustration. If I could score zero stars, I would. From start to finish, my time with Planet Fitness has been full of lies and frustration. The people there lied about what the membership covered, and when I asked for help, they sent me in circles. The app barely works, and that made it hard to track workouts or manage my account online. The real nightmare began when I tried to end my membership. What should have been a simple task turned into a mission with endless excuses, hidden steps, delays. Then they billed me again after I had already asked to stop the plan. It feels like a scam meant to take money from people instead of giving real service today. Skip the hassle and try another gym that respects members and runs it honestly if you can.

Still, when someone judges you unfairly for who you are, you just smile. Today, I walked into the Planet Fitness in Renton, WA. At the desk, the staff scanned my code and said I couldn’t use the service any longer unless I updated my card info, which is due to expire this month. I hadn’t noticed this before and didn’t know I needed a card on file since the gym takes the monthly fee right from my bank. She said the card is only there as a backup payment method. But when I checked the app, I saw I already paid for this month, and my due date isn’t until October 17—almost a month away. A nicer way would have been to say, please update your card before your next due date. Instead, she cut off my access, which felt off. It seemed like she forgot her job is to help customers, not judge people. I tried to stay calm and asked for a quick check, but I got the cold response instead. I’ve kept this Black Card for months even when I skip days, still paying a fixed amount every month. Seems unfair and not fair to members. She doesn’t even know me! This was already the second time she treated me differently. Since May, I haven’t been able to go to the gym much because of a busy schedule. Still, I never want to cancel my membership. Each month I pay $27.58 for my Black Card, no matter how often I show up. So my question stays this: why keep credit card info if they bill me directly through my bank? If someone misses a payment, then yes, they should lose service. Isn’t that how it should work?

It seemed she forgot her job is to help all customers, not pass judgment on people she doesn’t know. This was the second time I felt singled out by her. Since May, in the last five months, I’ve barely had time to go to the gym more than ten times because of my tight schedule. Still, I never wanted to cancel my plan. Every month I send $27.58 for the Black Card, no matter how many times I visit. Here’s what I’m asking the gym to explain: why keep a credit card on file if payments can come straight from a bank account? If someone misses a payment, sure, they shouldn’t get the service. Isn’t that the idea? Honestly, I just want fair treatment and a clear rule that fits the way payments work for real members who try to keep up without stress. Not every month is easy either.

Since May, five months, I haven’t been able to go much because of a full schedule. Yet I never want to cancel my Black Card—I still pay $27.58 every month. I am sharing this to warn others who may run into the same issue. A heads up about these fees and rules would have helped me plan better. I still want to use the gym, but I hope they handle things fairer. If they can remind people kindly next time, this won’t feel like a fight. For now, I’ll keep paying and see if changes come. If not, I will think twice before renewing my plan again until they fix this.
Been a black card member for 10 years at Sahara ave. club in Las Vegas. Staff is rude a lot, and the manager Athena lets that slide. Most of the other employees are okay. Before Athena took over, no problems there.
