Solid platform, with quirks

Ecwid by Lightspeed offers a solid storefront with reliable checkout and strong plugin options. The setup was straightforward, but I hit a few performance hiccups during peak traffic. Overall happy, though there are some rough edges.

I've been using Ecwid for a year now for my clients
I’ve stuck with Ecwid for a year now, and I’d say it’s a solid pick. They’re cool. Support answers mails within 24 hours. The tools are solid, they launching a new feature almost every week, and they’re pushing to add anything that makes our ecommerce site smoother. I keep telling my friends and ... The tools are solid, they launching a new feature almost every week, and they’re pushing to add anything that makes our ecommerce site smoother. I keep telling my friends and coworkers about them. What I love: - Helpful support - Easy to use in every way, simple to add or manage products - Quick to build the instant site, pages, and sections - Speedy order notification emails - Their mobile app is handy for managing all orders - Zapier, Shipstation, and other apps link up nice and easy - Site loads quickly, the catalog may be a touch slow, but Ajax makes it fly - Love how easy it is to customize page sections and make them look good - Mobile look is neat - Abandoned cart helps keep things moving - Site appearance and content are easy to adjust - Payment and shipping options are simple to edit with clear rules - Cart and checkout feel friendly to customers, tracking works well - Multilingual support options are solid, even if I don’t use them all If I had a few notes: - Consider a separate blog area instead of using product categories for posts - Add rich snippets like Organization Schema, OnlineStore Schema, and Articles Schema - Add an option to index or noindex product pages - A way to create a custom dropdown menu item - Add icons for App Store and Google Play in contact info to link to our apps - Include images in the sitemap - Clean up policies URL from products/pages - Auto-fill image ALT text when empty with title or file name - Make the discount code field more visible at checkout - A media library to reuse images instead of re-uploading for each section - A section library to save sections for reuse on other pages (duplicate section feature needs fixing; often shows only about ten pages and won’t scroll) - Ability to tailor customer email templates by payment or fulfillment status, not a single template for all - Import/export discount codes Overall, I’ll keep using Ecwid for my clients and I’d recommend it. Strong features, decent value

Pricing is competitive for what you get, and the storefront tools are solid for growing a small catalog. The main caveat is occasional UI delays during busy hours. Overall, it's a dependable choice.

Promising, but inconsistent speeds

The platform looks good, but site speed and mobile optimization lag behind competitors. Support was slow to respond and the migration guide was not clear.

I've used ECWID for 10+ years...no more!
I've used ECWID for more than ten years. They were nice and reliable...and then Lightspeed took over. Since then, it's been problem after problem after problem. - Slow performance. - Broken things I didn't notice. - Their staff messing with my site's payment setup and changing it without my ok... I've used ECWID for more than ten years. They were nice and reliable...and then Lightspeed took over. Since then, it's been problem after problem after problem. - Slow performance. - Broken things I didn't notice. - Their staff messing with my site's payment setup and changing it without my okay. - Lots of downtime. - Pages won't load. - Huge price hike. But what pushed me over the edge is seeing a "Powered by Lightspeed" badge on every product page!!! WHAT? They didn't ask or tell me!!!!! I'm furious about this. I'm going to talk to them tomorrow to see how they think this is okay.

Discount system broken for months
This checkout system has no way to stop buyers from stacking codes with other promos. For example, during a Black Friday or Boxing Day sale, if you hand out codes, people can apply a coupon over the seasonal deal, and there’s no switch to stop it. This is really dumb, the option to stop codes from stacking with other discounts is a basic feature in any cart. Not having this choice basically makes the whole discounts area useless, or you have to accept people double up on savings. We flagged this months ago, and support still says they are waiting to hear from others to decide if it should be added. I’m sure every Ecwid user who runs codes and seasonal promos will want this feature, most probably don’t even realize their customers can stack two discounts at once, since not having it is the normal way. We reported this a while back, and support says they are waiting on more feedback to see if they should build it. I’m sure it’s needed by many.

Please do avoid this platform.
Just skip this site, honestly. The sync with Facebook/Instagram has never worked, and it's been broken for ages. There are some fixes people try, but they're not smooth at all. Using the Ecwid plugin is a pain too, it keeps failing and eats up lots of time with small product links and blog posts.... Just skip this site, honestly. Using the Ecwid plugin is a pain too, it keeps failing and eats up lots of time with small product links and blog posts. Links break, and emails from Fasthost and Google about broken links flood in. A year ago it was around £30 a month, and now it's up to £55, and it still doesn't run right!!!!! It wastes time for small shops when issues pop up. Lately I keep getting security warnings about the plugin on my site. All of this stuff eats my time. Do yourself a favor and I did try light fixes, but they broke more links. really AVOID

Their tools helped me show items clearly, build a neat storefront, and link everything without a tech degree. The help along the way was fast and truly useful, walking me through a couple setup questions and showing me how to get more from my shop. Thanks to Ecwid, Flips & Finds Online now runs with a polished site and a smooth checkout for buyers. I’d suggest it to other small business folks who want to go digital without the hassle. It saved me time and plenty of stress.

I emailed support asking if th... Here's my take on their CS. I tried Ecwid about a year ago, but I never ended up using it. This morning I was billed for a full year ($300) and I panicked, since I didn’t recall having an account or ever using their service (I hadn’t set it up when I gave it a try). I emailed support asking if they could at least cancel the account, because I couldn’t figure out which email I used, and I wasn’t happy about a yearly charge for something I didn’t think I used. The CS agent (his name was Wade, shoutout for the solid job he did) replied quickly, issued a refund, and canceled the subscription. I appreciate companies that aren’t rude to customers and that act fast and considerate when these things pop up. I didn’t use their service, but I’d come back later for this kind of customer support alone. It’s exactly how it should be. Thanks for being honest and genuine. I’d recommend them just for this alone. Also, I value a real human touch, not a script. If more companies followed this example, support would feel kinder.

Good potential, uneven support

We like the API and catalog management, but customer support has been inconsistent. If you can handle a few delays, it’s a decent platform to grow with.

Ecwid has proved to be the best shopping cart!
Ecwid turned out to be my favorite shopping cart tool. I tried a bunch of others, and they all fell short. The support team is who I reach out to most, and they've guided me through many situations with calm patience! I've learned a lot from Ecwid and appreciate how they answer, or make a new one... Ecwid does not offer the simple ability…
Ecwid lacks a basic option to authorize a sale for later capture or cancellation. This is big because many payment services like PayPal won't refund the fees, which are about 3%, so if an order is canceled you lose that fee since you can't just void the charge. This is big because many payment services like PayPal won't refund the fees, which are about 3%, so if an order is canceled you lose that fee since you can't just void the charge. This feature is free with every other big site builder I know, like Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix, or Squarespace, so it feels odd that Ecwid leaves it out. I wish they had this option right now, please.

Reasonable, with room to grow

Ecwid by Lightspeed covers the essentials well: easy products setup, safe payments, decent reporting. Some features feel a bit clunky and support responses can be hit or miss, depending on the time.

Onboarding needs much more help

The onboarding wizard is too terse and the knowledge base misses key steps for merchants migrating from another platform. Without clearer guides, setup takes longer than expected.

Avoid ECWID for ticket selling - not fit for purpose
From my view it probably handles selling physical stuff fine, yet it has a really big flaw - it won't sell event tickets, only one at a time. (A user buys two seats, gets a single PDF - no option to give two, or more). Yes there is a big manual fix that includes grabbing names and making each tic... But that is no real fix for issuing tickets. The marketing hype says it can do this, but it needs huge manual steps like making every ticket with a barcode one by one on a computer, or making people print the order, which isn’t a real ticket (and then, what is the PDF for?). It feels broken for events.

Major flaw and no ETA on fixing
Store software is okay most of the time, but it has a big flaw. There’s no way to stop discount coupons from being used with store-wide promotions. For example, if you send a customer a 10% off code, and later run a 15% Black Friday sale, the customer can apply the code to the sale and get 25% of... It’s a basic feature that should be on every online store, and support can’t give any ETA on when it will be fixed, implying it’ll be months away at best. That kind of flaw makes customers doubt the whole platform.

Ecwid's customer service is great!

Support at Ecwid is really solid, mainly because replies come fast; I tell everyone to give Ecwid a try. Building my site is simple, even for newbies, and it plays nice with other apps, which is cool!

Ecwid Held My Funds Hostage, Ignored My Refund Requests & Damaged My Business
A few months back I switched my site name, and Ecwid never warned me it could cause trouble. When I started pushing ads and made a sale, they froze the buyer’s payment while still taking their cut. I had to chase support to learn why the money was blocked. Even after I explained I needed two week... A few months back I switched my site name, and Ecwid never warned me it could cause trouble. When I started pushing ads and made a sale, they froze the buyer’s payment while still taking their cut. I had to chase support to learn why the money was blocked. Even after I explained I needed two weeks to finish the order, they ignored my refund requests. They waited until the last 3 days to release funds, giving me no time to buy raw materials abroad. That made my buyer think I was careless, hurting my shop’s reputation. When I asked again for a refund, Ecwid ignored my messages and even called the issue solved without a reply! Ecwid’s behavior was sloppy, sneaky, and poor for my brand, and I wish I had picked another support. If you care about your business, stay away and expect slow help and missing money. Please take this seriously and reconsider before you work with them. Your customers deserve reliable service and prompt refunds.

Switching to Ecwid sunk my audience and customers. None of them trusted Ecwid after that. Ecwid didn't help at all. In the end I had to close my seven-year shop. Now, with a few months left on this plan, I learned the handy features are hidden behind a second upgrade. And that upgrade costs a fortune. With the ‘sell on Google’ option, the help pages go nowhere (misleading) and the info is five years past. I regret the move and tell friends to skip Ecwid and choose a service they can trust.

Tons of settings, lots of ways to make the shop look clean, in various styles, across different sections, with product layouts, it took me a while since it was unfamiliar and I moved slowly through all the tips on how to use the site. There’s a lot to read, I mean a lot, and key info to help when you’re stuck, I did it plenty of times. But patience matters most! I’m pleased with what I got, earned my first sale this month! The 12th. Feeling proud of this start.

Use Ewcid

Computers aren't my thing, so I'm not good at them. Ewcid makes a job I hate way much easier. Its the simplest site builder I've used, and someone there to help. If there are downsides I don't know them, and I don't care, because I'd have no site or clients without Ewcid's help.
