I would rate it zero, the service is truly utterly awful. Set aside at least an hour to wait at the Wiesbaden branch for simple tasks. Every single time. And nobody gives a shit.

Worst bank experience I had after dealing with Banks in 4 countries.
I tried opening a corporate account to access my company shares on 18/07/2025. By 06/10/2025 it's still not opened. 1) After 2 months they lied about calling me, trying to put the blame on me. 2) After I sent extra documents they asked for, and a week with no reply, I asked again if they had my d... By 06/10/2025 it's still not opened. 1) After 2 months they lied about calling me, trying to put the blame on me. 2) After I sent extra documents they asked for, and a week with no reply, I asked again if they had my details. They answered that they now miss the opening form I sent on 18/07/2025. 3) All this talk goes by normal email, not a web page or app where you can see status or attached papers, which would stop mixups in forms and data. 4) Each time I have to hunt for what went wrong with their account setup. I only deal with them because my boss uses them. I hope they handle funds better than opening accounts. Right now I would not recommend them to friends. The delays hurt my work and keep me waiting for days with no new updates. I am sharing this now.

After more than four decades as a loyal client, Commerzbank suddenly shut my private and business accounts without reason and ignored all my objections. From the outside, the move feels less like a tailored decision and more like a “de-risking” routine — a compliance shortcut that pushes long-time clients out as they carry low revenue or AML concerns. This is absurd, since regulators themselves have warned banks not to hide behind de-risking and algorithms, and the real money-laundering dangers usually lie with big-volume clients, not small customers such as me. Rather than engaging with me or even replying, the bank simply shut my accounts on the date it had set, leaving me unable to transact. In short, Commerzbank prioritizes profit and ends service entirely, even in such cases. The approach of Commerzbank’s leadership shows that, for all intents and purposes, there is no longer a customer who banks with Commerzbank — and if this is banking’s future, one can hope such banks disappear sooon, moving forward. That outcome makes the bank look careless, and customers feel completely left out.

After 13 years as a loyal customer with a giro account, I was forced into a Business account and locked out of my funds again and again. I have never seen this much incompetence before. Ten trips to a bank 30 minutes away, endless calls, and more than 20 hours wasted trying to shut this damn account down, and nobody can seem to get it right. It feels endless and shockingly bad. So many hours ruined with no apology for taking my time and making mess after mess. I would avoid this if I could, but I'm still stuck dealing with it, over and over and over. Same waste, same hassle, same tired result, again today.

Being with them for four generations, we never had trouble until Commerzbank ended our daughter's account. After many questions and complaints, we were told they do not give reasons for closing accounts. I am truly sickened, and if I could give minus five stars, I would. This does not mean they were bad before, but this move will push us to move our money elsewhere and leave the bank behind. We hoped for help, but silence and more questions.
Total incompetence here, at its peak …. everything feels old-school and clunky …. IT systems and online banking are a joke, really, plus horrendous customer service!

There was no issue with my papers, then I opened an account with Sparkasse, no problem. Time wasted, I felt shocked, and they just claimed it was a mistake, to simply dump or discard all documents and emails.. shameful! I hope they fix their process soon!
legalized scam run by incompetents who treat customers like trash

I've lived in many countries across Europe and dealt with banks and their support. Commerzbank has the WORST, the WORST customer help I have ever met in my life. A simple question cost me an hour waiting in line, the line got cut off and I had to call again, the staff who helped me were as gray and grumpy and dull as the weather. I would sooner visit a Commerzbank branch that's four hours away by car than call them again. What a total nightmare. Working with this bank feels like being stuck in a boring bureaucracy game where the staff hold the keys and laugh at you. This bank is a disgrace. Their service is a black hole of mess, their systems belong in a junk room of failure, and their team act like doing the bare minimum is a sport they always lose. Every contact feels like a punishment. If you value your time, money, or mind, steer clear of this bank like a plague. Avoid them if possible.

The app gives me answers, but I keep getting cut off, and each re-call brings a new reply. I visited the branch, forced to wait outside for about twenty minutes during open hours. At least I got a look at a helpdesk number you won't find online, in case someone calls. The staff there has roughly the same access to my accounts as I do, so they had nothing useful to share. When I asked about a savings account, they said the rates aren't competitive. Overall, it left me thinking they don't really care about customers.

August 2025 After I closed my account on 31 July 2025 at the Friedrichstraße branch — turning in all cards and signing several forms — I still did not receive a written proof of closure. Even with my request for a copy, nothing was given to me. All papers stayed with them, and no names or contact details were shared by staff. Weeks after, I get automated emails from Commerzbank saying “You have a new file in your online box” — yet I deleted the app, and I cannot sign in anymore to fetch documents. They want me to sign into a system I no longer use to grab papers I shouldn't even need after this closing. No transparency. No courtesy. No real closure. And if this “new document” turns out to be some hidden fee, it will confirm exactly what many other reviewers are saying: that Commerzbank is untrustworthy, withholding, and intentionally opaque when it comes to customer offboarding. I’ve now had to send a letter by mail just to ask for a simple written proof of closure — something that should have happened automatically the day I left. There is no valid reason for a customer to be treated this way.

This bank has been a real hassle to deal with. I opened the account more than sixteen years ago, and suddenly I could not log in. When I went to the branch, I was stunned to see my details changed without me knowing, and my age showed as under eighteen. Later I added a joint account with my partner. Since then we've had nonstop issues: no one can send us money and every transfer fails. We kept visiting the branch and making calls, but the answer was always the same: there's nothing wrong on their side. In person they would promise a call within a day. But no one ever contacted us. There was no clear email address, and emails were never answered. Ultimately we closed our accounts because this bank proved to be untrustworthy. The app is hard to use for people abroad, since some parts don't support English. From my side, the lessons were simple: keep your details solid, document every visit, and never expect quick help. The branch staff often sounded busy, and that made the problems feel bigger. If you face this bank, start planning a backup plan early, because relying on them is a risk you don't want. So we moved our funds elsewhere and warned friends to stay away. The experience left a bad taste, and trust never came back. I still use the same bank's name only as a warning. If you want a smoother experience, look somewhere else. Even when I asked for the manager, responses stalled and explanations changed. They blamed software faults and busy staff, but the problems kept repeating. We finally cancelled the cards and asked for our data to be corrected. Even after that, mail from the bank still went unanswered. If you want to use this bank, plan for delays and surprises. Better to keep funds elsewhere and avoid the constant hassle. My advice: move away sooner rather than later. You deserve real help, not empty promises ever.

For two months already, they keep blocking my online banking. When I left Germany, I asked at a branch to move my address to Italy. The teller said it was done, but in truth Commerzbank kept the German address. When they changed the login to the new photo TAN, the activation slip went to the old address. So the letter was lost. Two months of endless calls, failed procedures, PIN requests, and auto-identification followed. I've tried a thousand things, and NOTHING WORKS. It sounds simple: send the activation to my new address. Yet NO, this easy task is IMPOSSIBLE, and today I can't access online banking for TWO MONTHS. I can't even visit a branch because I must book through online banking. Having problems with them feels like a nightmare. There are no other words to explain the feeling. Things that should be easy become huge hurdles, wasting time and days of work. I miss urgent calls, only to hear more delays. Every step feels blocked by red tape and slow replies. If they fix this, I hope it happens soon. I hope this ends soon.
Things are very tangled. Opening it and making it work was hard, very slow and frustrating. And then I got so fed up I didnt want to use it, and it took months to shut down my account. Overall it drains a lot of energy to deal with this company, not worth it for me.

I drop by this branch every week, and no one there helps me at all. All I hear is "it's on the way" every single time. I still cannot access my own bank account after four months. Banks are legally obliged to give customers access to their accounts, and this is not okay. Im really switching to a new bank, definitely never again. Don't fall for those Google comments. My post there got removed twice!!
Heads up: closing an account with them is a hassle. Prices went up, so I chose to leave and cancel. I had to mail 2 registered letters to wrap it, and they billed 2 months of fees in the end.

My roommate sent me a sign-up link for a Girokonto, promising she would get 100€ and I would get 50€ as a new member. After 3.5 years and many questions with no answers, we both got NOTHING. On 02.04.2025 I was told that more than 600€ had been taken from my account. I filed everything with the bank, filled all Reklamation forms, and I even went to the police. The credit card and PIN never arrived to my mailbox, yet they were sent the same day, which is not safe. How can I trust that? I called them and asked to never mail any cards to my address, to keep them at a branch and I would pick them up myself. A few days later, new cards and PIN arrived again the same day, and I told the bank. Since 02.04.2025 I have called almost every week to check on the Reklamation status—no answer. In the last two weeks of calls I got the same reply: “no one here can help you today; none of our English-speaking staff are here; try calling tomorrow.” They said I would get a reply by mail, but after almost 3 months, NOTHING. I never got the money. I would NEVER recommend this bank to anyone. From that day my roommate and I check our bank moves every 2–3 days, so we can watch what happens. If it happens again, what will the bank do? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. No safety steps at all. For transparency, I’ll add a photo of stolen money and the case number: 425119002052. Wahrscheinlich nichts. Keine Sicherheitsmaßnahmen, keine Verantwortung. Zur Klarheit: Die Referenznummer meines Falls ist 425119002052.
I had horrible trouble with Comerzbank customer service in Germany. Cannot believe such a big bank in Germany would hire so rude staff, especially the Filiale in Ostbahnhof, Munich, Germany. The hotline isn't much better.
