We recently ordered a TCL tv, but it arrived damaged; we contacted support and had a nice experience, it was fixed in under a week, now a replacement has arrived and we are really very pleased. Thanks very much.

Not as bad as everyone thinks
They might seem about to lose work, yet the team stayed polite and helpful, still friendly throughout the visit overall.

Update 14/09/2019: My old point about skipping giftcards turned out to be true – shops take as much as £300 million a year from unused cards before they run out. Who would want a gift card anyway!! There’s talk of a fresh trap with gift cards (not going into detail here, but many cards on shelves can be meddled with and the card number noted before someone buys it). Original note dated 04/11/2012. They refuse to honor giftcards now that they are in trouble? People have spent money on them?! Pleased to see the back of the firm then. A story in the paper yesterday about a boy with Cerebral Palsy unable to buy an iPad with a £500 charity gift card – Comet refused it. Don't buy giftcards anywhere. Shops use it as a way to put limits on YOUR money. You can spend cash anywhere, but once you buy a giftcard (there is usually no reason to do so, so why bother?) your money is stuck in that shop, and they then set a time limit. When the creditors come in like with Comet, you will likely lose your hard earned money. Theft - a simple word for it. Another rip-off high street shop closing. Good riddance. If you want your cash safe, stay away from giftcards and watch the shop shelves with a careful eye today.

I returned it and, even though it was only a day old, they wouldn't replace it since it had been opened. Wtf! After about an hour and a half arguing, they sent it off for repair. A month later it came back. A month of my warranty gone. I got home, plugged it in, and it was still busted! Then I took it back again, and after another long argument, they sent it for repair. And yep, another month wasted. I brought it home, used it, and lost two months of my warranty, with no compensation, missing Christmas with my granddad I really wanted to video. After a year, it breaks again. I gave up! The maker would only fix it if I paid, and the shop I bought it from says it's out of warranty. I swore I'd stay away. I chucked the camera in the bin. I spent over £500 on a real piece of junk. Funny thing is, my aunt and a mate had the same problem with TVs bought there. Stay away, warning! Honestly I tell everyone I meet to avoid that shop and this brand at all.

Within 6 months it failed - 6 flashes. I called Comet. They gave me numbers for Sony. Then they handed me Birmingham Specialised Service. The technician arrived, wrapped the set in bubble wrap, and hauled it off. No replacement offer was made - they claimed you should have booked. Two weeks passed and there was no spare part. More calls followed. Sony said BSS could authorised a replacement, but BSS said only Sony would. After more complaints and threats of a sit-down, Sony finally authorised one. But it is a Bank Holiday and wet, so you need a tv. Comet won't replace sets for Health & Safety rules, and shouting won't help. BSS have none left they can lend us. We will try Sony, but I doubt it will work. If I bought from M&S I would not go to the maker, they would fix it and replace there and then if needed. We like many others have supported Comet over the years but not any more. Sorry Comet - you don't deserve our custom. We just wanted a simple fix, not a long fight with shops and makers. It weighed on us every day.

Xmas week the TV gave up on us, so we headed to the local Comet and bought a new 51\" 3D TV - first bits were fine! About a month later it stopped again, we rang customer support to report the fault and they sent out an engineer (a week later!). That guy came in, whinging about finding out that morning he’d been made redundant (poor guy) and that the TV needed a new part and that he’d order it - again, so far so good! But the engineer clearly used his layoff mood on us and ordered the wrong part! We didn’t realise until the second engineer called today to say the part he had wasn’t the right one, as it needed something totally different!!!! You might wonder why I’m a bit annoyed (trust me, I’d swear if I could) but we’ve waited 3 weeks for this wrong part, and only found out it was in stock because I rang customer services 3 weeks later to complain. Miracle it showed up the very day I rang! It seems Comet customer service only goes as far as customers ring a premium rate number, not Services ringing you back! Despite that, the guy at the other end said I still had to wait 4 more days for the engineer. I took the day off for his visit only to be told the original engineer would have known the mistake. Maybe telling former staff they’re not needed on the day they visit isn’t the best move. The second engineer said he’d order the correct part (I hope he really does) and we’d wait another 7 days... How long does spare parts take to arrive?! You were not slow when you sold me the item, and I’m glad I skipped the extended warranty because this feels as useless as a chocolate fire guard. When I rang after the engineer left I may as well have saved the call, as they were not interested and the polite young girl who heard my tale said she’d put me through to a Supervisor (oh great) but she sent me to someone else without explaining my problem. Basically, she got rid of me - oh dear, a fed-up customer, I’ll pass you to another poor team member. Comet, if you don’t want the business don’t offer a service you don’t intend to provide! I want to come home after a long day and relax in front of my four-month-old TV, not stare at a blank screen!! And by the way, when you finally fix it, it will be the last time I shop with you. You never get a second chance to make a decent first impression! I’m giving you one star only because I had no option!!!

On march 6 2012 the screen started showing pink lines so i called comet, they said a tech would call back between four and six. after waiting no one rang so in the morning i phoned comet again. eventually i spoke to a tech who said it sounds like it is faulty and a tech would come out to look, but the next appointment was in five days so i said ok. the tech came out, nice guy, polite. he tried a few settings, and said that should fix it. i asked him should the tv work with any settings that are on the tv, he said plasmas are not very good with the settings i picked. the tech left. on trying the tv it was still the same so i rang again, they said they would send someone else out, next appointment was in six days. the next tech came, not the same one, so i thought good, it might get fixed now, it needs a new screen he replied, someone will ring you, but nobody rang, had to contact them again, they said as soon as the parts are in stock we will contact you. a few days later i got a call saying it would be picked up, and would only take a week, so a day was set, tv picked up as promised, no problems there. a week later i rang back because there was no call from comet and was told the part was not in stock yet and would be another week till part was in, and it would take four weeks to fix. so i rang back after three weeks just to check its on its way back to you as we speak was the reply i got, great news going to get my telly back. then arranged for delivery in a morning 8-12 slot, had to move my shift at work to fit, and go in the afternoon, so i waited, 1 o'clock came and it still had not arrived so i rang comet again, they said it was an afternoon slot not morning, argh, later, there was nothing i could do so i told work i could not come in and they were not happy. i had to fetch the kids from school so my mum waited in for them, she had just finished work. so i got home the tv had arrived nicely so i put it on the stand plugged it in and buzz, no picture at all, so i rang again and after a long hold i was told an engineer would have to come out to check what is wrong i asked why it was not tested before it left everything was tested for hours before being sent back. so i sat there looking at a blank screen, then i noticed a bright spot on the screen, it seems the screen has been damaged but the glass front has no mark, this must have happened during install, so much for load tests. if i have no luck tomorrow, i will take it back to the store i got it from and tell people never to shop there till i get my money back or the police move me. so i would never recommend buying from comet again, their after sales service stinks i warned friends and family to stay away there too. my receipt stays in my bag just in case. i spent many evenings on hold, listening to boring music and hearing promises that never came true. i hope this ends and i win.
I have spent months fighting with Comet. The aftersales is the worst I've ever seen. I work with hundreds of retailers in my job. I've been without a cooker for 5 months because a part is missing. I work with hundreds of retailers in my job. I've been without a cooker for 5 months because a part is missing. It's been 5 months and they told me to source it myself after two months! They finally sent it to the local branch after 4 months and it was the wrong part! Still waiting and pursuing legal action because I had to stay in a hotel for Christmas. No compensation ruined my Christmas. I wrote six letters and over 100 emails, then finally emailed the boss Bob Darke, who is rude and arrogant. He had someone else reply. I've had no cooker for 5 months due to Comet and couldn't stay home for Christmas. I've shouted at them, written letters and emails, and they are rude and offered no compensation!!! Useless and nearly broke my family apart, and they even laughed at my misfortune. DO NOT USE. I have heard hundreds of others with the same story and am now mounting a campaign against them. Join me if you care about justice.
